A NEW CLASS OF HIGH PERFORMANCE INDUSTRIAL ANTIOXIDANTS

When polypropylene (PP) was extruded using the commercial antioxidant package (AO-1 at 1000 ppm along with 1000 ppm calcium stearate and 1000 ppm phosphite) an oxidative induction time of 7.6 minutes was obtained using the ASTM D5885 method (orange curve).


This performance was matched by the PP sample extruded using only 225 ppm each of the Polnox antioxidant, calcium stearate, and phosphite (green curve).  A significant performance enhancement (~4.5x) of using the Polnox technology is evident from this experiment.

FORMULATION:

1000 ppm AO+1000 ppm CaSt+1000 ppm TRP, Extruded at 250 C, PP

Performance are compared by induction times in minutes under oxygen pressure 500 PSI at 170 ˚C, ASTM D 5885
