The Thermo-Oxidative Stability of Biolubricants

The oxidation stability of commercial biolubricant was tested and compared with when it is treated with 2% Polnox® 8020 using the RPVOT test (ASTM D2272).  This method involves testing the oxidation stability of biolubricants in the presence of copper catalyst and water at 150 ˚C (302 ˚F) and 90 PSI (620 kPa) of oxygen.

Significantly higher OIT values were observed for the commercial biolubricant containing 2% Polnox® 8020.  Moreover, our own experimental biolubricant formulated with high oleic canola oil and 2% Polnox® 8020 showed RPVOT values exceeding 300 minutes.
